Distinction.....the etymological dictionary defines this as eminence....excellence....that which is unique from all the others....

I was caring for a pt. today that had traveled down to Wingate for his daughter's graduation. He arrived at the hospital feeling quite ill and he appeared very sickly. I did the usual small talk and comfort-nursy-caring stuff and after I had initiated this and that to help him out I unashamedly asked "Has your daughter ever experienced the eminent teaching of my dear friend Dr. Peter Frank?"

(OK...this is a paraphrase of sorts...)

The entire family got wide-eyed. Their jaws dropped to the ground (this greatly concerned me because hospital floors are notoriously nasty from...well..you know...) and after catching thier collective breath they fired back "You know Dr. Frank?" I answered back calmly and proudly, "I know the eminent man well." (OK..I didn't use eminent but if I had just read from the etymological dictionary, then I would have...)

A family member then shared with me this glorious comment; "Dr. Frank received a big award at the graduation!"

My mind started to wonder...was it the "Best dressed?....nah...couldn't be. Coolest hair style?....doubtful......Most approachable? Maybe.....Most intellectually adroit? Probable......

My charge nurse phone rang and I had to run off to save another life and this and that but as I trotted down the hall to save a few lives I glistened and gleamed and smiled and said deep down...."Thats my friend Pete!!"

I am proud of that eminent man.
